CARAVAN PARK AT STANFORD HALL

 01788 860387

Do you fancy a taste of the aristocratic life but the bank balance completely disagrees? Come to a very satisfying compromise with an affordable stay at Stanford Hall Caravan Park, attached to a manor house on a sprawling estate with manicured gardens and leafy woodland to wander around.

Despite being in a nature-rich area, this place a 15-minute drive from Leicestershire’s Lutterworth is a cinch to get to from the main M1, M6 and A14 roads, making it a top stopover spot on route to urban centres like Leicester (half an hour’s drive) and Northampton (35 minutes).

Amenities are close by, including a large supermarket around 10-15 minutes’ drive away, – a handy fix if you’re after some eats to nosh out in the open air while soaking up the site’s gorgeous greenery.

Appetite sated and ready to roam? Have a chat with the staff about attractions and activities in the local area – the whole team is well-versed in customer service and they’re always happy to help. If you’re up for settling down here for a while, that’s also no problem – long-term stays are very much possible.

If it’s the manor in the grounds of Stanford Hall Caravan Park that has swayed you into booking a place at the park, you might very well want to seek out more of the handsome homes in the local area. One such spot is Althorp Estate (25 minutes), the former house of Princess Diana and her final resting place.

Pay your respects when the grounds are open between July and August, then move on to Market Harborough (25 minutes) to browse the 60 covered stalls in the town’s award-winning indoor market. Pick up some artisanal bread and cheese from the independent vendors for a picnic back at the park before indulging in a little more rack-rifling in Rugby (15 minutes) and Leicester (30 minutes).

Birmingham’s NEC, meanwhile, is a 35-minute drive away if you’re attending a trade fair or concert, and William Shakespeare’s birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon (50 minutes) is well worth going out of your way for if you like your literature. Catch a play here at one of the theatres and check out the cottage of Anne Hathaway, the writer’s wife, about a mile out of the medieval market town too.

For a fascinating family day out in Leicestershire, head to the iconic Foxton Locks. There are flights of locks all over our network – but not like Foxton. It’s home to two amazing feats of engineering in the heart of Leicestershire, on the Grand Union Canal. As well as the longest and steepest staircase locks in the UK, the site is home to the remains of the inclined plane, a magnificent, if slightly weird, piece of Victorian engineering.

Lutterworth is a market town and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. The town is located in southern Leicestershire, close to the borders with Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. It is located 6.4 miles north of Rugby, Warwickshire and 12 miles south of Leicester.

One of the established landmarks of the town is the 17th-century building on the corner of George Street and Leicester Road, previously a tavern called the Cavalier Inn. The Cavalier Inn was located just on the northern edge of the town centre of Lutterworth. Although the building has been modified over the years, it still retains its rustic charm with stone walls and low ceilings and beams.Originally called the “Ram Inn” – that part of George Street was called Ram Lane – it changed its name in the early 1970s after a brewery ‘make-over’ which greatly improved the interior. It is said that the brewery did not like the name Ram Inn and prudishly renamed it ‘the Cavalier’ after claims that wounded royalist soldiers sheltered in Lutterworth following the Battle of Naseby in 1645.
